About THE INFINITE - Julian Cook Photography
Julian Cook is an award-winning photographer, currently based in Perth, Western Australia.
Originally from the UK, graduating with BA Honours in Fine Art in 1994. He has lived and worked in England, New York, Tokyo and Bali, before moving to Australia in 2012. He has exhibited widely in both Australia and internationally. His work has received numerous international awards and is held in public and private collections.
His practice explores the psychological and surreal dimensions of landscape, often blurring the line between inner states and external environments. Working primarily with digital photography, Julian reframes familiar terrains as dreamlike, sometimes absurd spaces shaped by memory, solitude, and human intervention.
A central tension in his work lies between photography’s traditional role as a record of ‘fact’ and the viewer’s awareness that something has shifted — subtly or profoundly — within the frame.
Often drawn to remote or desolate environments, he seeks out places that appear suspended in time — landscapes that seem empty, yet charged with narrative. His imagery reveals moments of stillness and ambiguity, inviting viewers to engage with the landscape as a space of reflection, mystery, unease, or revelation.
